Guidelines:
Emphasis placed on challenging the notions of self-portraiture. This means pushing both formal and conceptual boundaries. This could include the usage of methods such as contrast and metaphor.

Open to high school students (ages 13-18.) Current Idyllwild Arts Academy students are not eligible to enter.

Size and media: 8"x10" on paper or illustration board; no 3-dimensional elements but collage is okay. Any medium is fine, but charcoal, pastel media must be applied with a spray fixative.

Return of works: Work with appropriate container/box or Envelope and return postage will be sent back to the artist. All works without postage will not be returned.


The top three winners will be exhibited on the school’s website.

Contest Terms and Conditions:
Entries will be accepted from students between the ages of 13 and 18 (as of September 1, 2009). Current students at the Idyllwild Arts Academy are not eligible to enter. Contest winners must meet the standard eligibility requirements for Admission to the Academy in order for prizes to be claimed (see Admission Requirements in the Admission section of this website for more details). Prizes are valid for the 2009-10 school year only, and are not applicable to concurrent years of enrollment at the Academy. Contest winners are eligible for further financial aid based on demonstrated need (see Tuition and Financial Aid in the Admission section of this website for more details). Prizes are not redeemable for cash value.
