Parks Exhibition Center

The Parks Exhibition Center is a focal point of the Idyllwild Arts campus. It is open throughout the year and serves to enrich the Academy and Summer Program by featuring the work of students, faculty and visiting artists. The 1400 square foot space was dedicated in 2002 and is a gift of Elizabeth B. Parks.

In the summer season, June 21 - August 15, 2008, the Center features Native American art and work by visiting artist/faculty. During the first two weeks of the season, works by Painting’s Edge program visiting artists are featured. Artists’ receptions, lectures and demonstrations are scheduled throughout the summer.

Summer Hours, June 21 - August 15
Tuesday-Saturday: 10:00 am – 5:00 pm; Sunday: 12:00 noon – 5:00 pm;
closed Monday.

Artists’ receptions each Monday at 8:00 pm through July 21.

During the academic year, September through May, the Parks Center is an integral part of the Academy's Visual Art program. It offers students the opportunity to view art works firsthand in a professional gallery setting. Parks is an invaluable educational tool, providing a forum for critical dialogue between the students and artists. It has become a dynamic part of Idyllwild Arts, hosting readings, performances and local community events.

Academy Hours, September - May
Monday-Friday: 10:00 am to 5:00 pm; or by appointment.

Artist Reception
January 11, 2008 6:30 p.m.
Parks Exhibition Center

Eric Metzler has been a teacher of photography for the past twenty years at Idyllwild Arts Academy. Lathing Lilies, his twenty year retrospective, metaphorically references the two major influences in his work—the early traditional work in nature, portraiture and form versus the later conceptual work in mixed media, sculpture and technology. The work utilizes broad applications of symbolism, analogy, exaggeration, abstraction, humor, religion, politics, and technology.
