In this special one-day workshop, students will weave a Danish paper cord seat on a walnut stool frame made by the instructor and provided for you. Methods learned in this class will prepare you for repairing many of the common Danish chairs and is a great foundation for more advanced weaving techniques and materials. No prior experience is needed, just a strong set of hands and minimal tools.
David Johnson graduated from The College of the Redwoods Fine Woodworking Program in 1997. Self taught as a seat weaver from the definitive book on the subject, The Caner’s Handbook, David later worked for the book’s author at The Caning Shop in Berkeley, CA. He has articles and videos published by Fine Woodworking, taught at numerous schools, and shown work at Craft in America and Craft Contemporary Museum. His video on hand caning is a part of the Craft in America’s Craft Video Dictionary.
