This surface decorating workshop offers a hands-on exploration of screen-printing techniques, stencils, and transfers with underglaze, applied during the leather hard stage. We’ll work on simple hand-built forms like small dishes, trays, and tiles, allowing participants to experiment with layering and enhancing surface complexity. The workshop will emphasize expanding your visual vocabulary and creating custom color palettes to craft pieces with vibrant, dynamic surfaces. Participants are encouraged to bring source material for inspiration, surface design, and to make custom silk screens. By the end, you’ll have bisqued pieces and a range of new techniques to enrich your decorative approach. We’ll be using mid-range speckled stoneware clay, but these techniques are adaptable for all clay types and firing temperatures.
