Spend time this summer inspiring your inner-photographer in this introductory digital photography course. You will master your digital camera, learning the basic functions of your devices so you can begin to shoot in manual mode.
Explore and master options such as aperture priority and shutter priority mode, capturing higher-quality images of the people and places around you. You will learn Photoshop, Lightroom and useful photography apps on your phone.

Instructor Shaunna Lehr will help you see the world like a photographer, understanding lighting, composition and framing. She will work with you, reviewing your photos and helping you improve. You will complete the course with skills and know-how to take professional-quality photographs.

Born and raised in Idyllwild California, Shaunna Lehr earned her Bachelors of Fine Art in Portrait Photography from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara in 2009. During her studies, she had the opportunity to work with and learn from many prestigious photographers such as Nick Decker, Joyce Wilson, Ralph Clevenger, and Christopher Broughton. While in Santa Barbara, Shaunna was a journal photographer for Seasons Magazine. Her work has been featured in galleries like Gallery 27 in Santa Barbara. Her training and photography studies include focuses in traditional color, black and white film, 35mm, and large and medium format film. In addition to traditional film, Shaunna is well versed in digital photography using Lightroom and Photoshop. She is currently Visual Arts and InterArts faculty at Idyllwild Arts Academy.

The Joy of iPhoneography: Photography Using Mobile Devices

Immerse yourself in a week-long intensive learning experience – right from your home – packed with hands-on shooting and editing activities designed to boost your skill and build your creative confidence using an iPhone or iPad. 

In this workshop, you will learn how to unlock the professional and high-resolution image-making capabilities of your familiar iPhone and take an in-depth tour of the core mechanics of photography as a medium. Fast-paced, interactive class discussions will take place in a secure online classroom optimized for sharing mobile devices so the instructor and  participants can seamlessly share ideas and images in real time.

You can expect to expand your personal creativity and enhance your artistic vision through daily hands-on practice with high-end shooting and editing apps that yield professional results. The apps introduced in class will help you compose, tune, retouch, stylize, and finish images for the web or for large format inkjet printing. You will walk away with a new depth of understanding about yourself, your iPhone’s capabilities, and images you never imagined you could make with a mobile device.

Once registered, you will receive the week’s agenda along with a list of apps  to download and install prior to the first session. You will need a strong, reliable internet connection for your computer, your iPhone or iPad (updated to the latest IOS) and basic familiarity with Zoom to participate.

Meri Aaron Walker has been a photographer and printmaker for over 50 years. For the last ten years, she has used only her iPhones and iPads to make images that have been widely awarded and collected, including a recent purchase by Harvard Medical School for their Transformational Medicine Building. Meri has an MA from the University of Texas, Austin, where she also taught photography. She has extensive experience in photojournalism, fine art photography, and printmaking. She has been invited to jury six national and international mobile photography exhibitions. Meri lives in Talent, OR.
