Iris Pell, highly acclaimed modern dance soloist, danced in major theaters nationally and
internationally with The Bella Lewitzky Dance company.

Lewitzky chose Iris to perform a solo of challenging modern dance technique in Agnes De
Mille’s “Conversations About the Dance”, seen on P.B.S. and performed at the Greek Theatre in
Los Angeles and The San Francisco Opera House. Donna Perlmutter of The Los Angeles
herald Examiner wrote, “And Iris Pell doing Bella Lewitzky’s studies in arduous control gave the
huge audience an appreciation of modern dance fundamentals such as it may never have
again.” Bella also choreographed a solo on Iris titled “Iris” described by Anna Kisselgoff of the
New York Times, “ The best solo for Miss Pell, another fine dancer, took her strongly weighted
movements into exuberant leaps and ended spectacularly.”

After leaving Bella’s Company Iris taught at Santa Monica College, Pasadena College, Loyola
Marymount University, U.C. Irvine and was a guest artist at many colleges and universities.

Iris graduated high school at North Carolina School of the Arts, has a B.F.A. from California
Institute of the Arts and a M.F.A. in choreography from University of California, Los Angeles.
