Joo Lee (Music ’01)

Music Faculty Cello

Joo Lee is an LA-based cellist who loves to balance music and life. She performs with many ensembles in Los Angeles, such as Delirium Musicum and Brightwork, and in various orchestras, including Riverside Lyric Opera (principal), Riverside Orchestra, San Bernardino Symphony, Redlands Symphony, Redlands Bowl Orchestra (principal), Pacific Opera Project, Opera Santa Barbara, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Ashland Symphony Orchestra, Santa Barbara Symphony, and LA Opera. Joo has been involved in recordings for TV shows and movies, including Family GuyAmerican Dad, the Star Trek series, Onward, and The Call of the Wild. 

Joo has been teaching for over 25 years and currently holds faculty positions at Idyllwild Arts Academy (IAA) and the Summer Program, as well as at Malibu High and Middle Schools. In the summers, she also joins the Montecito Music Festival in Thousand Oaks. She has been invited to give masterclasses in various cities and to serve as a judge for numerous competitions, including SYMF and ASTA. In her free time, Joo enjoys visiting national parks, hiking, and running. She received honors at Juilliard Preparatory, a BM from the New England Conservatory, and an MM from the University of Southern California. A proud alumna of IAA and the Summer Program, Joo values the foundation they gave her as a young artist. Joo currently lives in South Pasadena with her family.
