Join us as our 2024 Concerto Competition Winner Katerina Sommers performs her winning piece, Rachmaninoff’s mighty Piano Concerto No. 2, backed by the IAA Orchestra and special guests in a formal concert program offering many hopeful, uplifting themes of humanity appropriate for our times. The program will also feature Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9, a postwar work written at the same time as Idyllwild Arts’ founding.

The Idyllwild Arts concerto competition is completely unique at the high school level, giving finalists the opportunity to perform their final round with a full orchestra in front of a live audience. The winning prize is equally special—following her win last year, Katerina’s concerto was incorporated into the classical music curriculum for this school year in preparation for this very special performance.
