This workshop is designed for experienced pianists to improve their performance skills and repertoire. Practice and learn alongside professional and performing piano artists, in our beautiful William M. Lowman Concert Hall.

Enrollment is limited to 10 students.
Designed for the serious adult student with the desire to improve or refresh knowledge and performance skills, the Adult Piano Performance workshop will develop your piano performance skills at intermediate and advanced levels. Students will work with professional piano instructors who are also performing artists. Students will take private lessons and Master Classes with plenty of time set aside for practice.
The workshop will begin on Sunday afternoon, June 9th, with an orientation followed by a faculty recital and reception. Classes and lessons will begin on Monday, continuing throughout the week. Your experience will conclude with a student performance recital open to the public in the beautiful William M. Lowman Concert Hall; students will be expected to perform, but it is not required.
Idyllwild Arts Summer Program pays its respects to the late Dr. William Wellborn, his family, friends, and beloved students. Wellborn dedicated his time and love for teaching piano as an instructor in the Idyllwild Arts Adult Piano Performance summer program since 2017. He was loved by many, inspiring young artists and performers throughout his distinguished musical career.
William Wellborn was an active performer, teacher, and lecturer, and has appeared throughout the US, Canada, Europe and South America. The recipient of a CAPMT Lifetime Achievement Award, an MTNA fellow, host to his own San Francisco based radio show “Piano Legacy”, founding president of the SF Bay Area Chapter of the American Liszt Society, Vice President of the SF Council of the Chopin Foundation, and faculty at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music since 1989, Wellborn leaves behind a lasting legacy far beyond the stage.

Dr. Douglas Ashcraft has performed to acclaim in recitals and concerts throughout the US and Europe. Ashcraft began his formal training as a student of Aldo Mancinelli. Graduate work with John Perry followed at USC. An active chamber musician, he has performed in recitals at the Concertgebouw, Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Wigmore Hall. His performing career has included radio broadcasts on New York’s WQXR and live chamber music recitals on KKGO, KMZT and KUSC in Los Angeles, and BBC Radio 3 in London.
Antoinette K. Perry has appeared throughout the US, Europe and China as a soloist and chamber musician, collaborating with many of the world’s greatest artists. Distinguishing herself also as a pedagogue, Perry served for 12 years on the UCLA piano faculty before joining the faculty of the USC Thornton School of Music in 1996. She frequently gives master classes and serves as an adjudicator. Former students are enjoying successful careers as performers and pedagogues throughout the US and Asia.

Diane Hidy made her Carnegie Hall debut after completing her studies with John Perry and Leon Fleisher. She was the first woman to become a Fellow of the American Pianist Association. Diane attended Julliard and holds performance degrees from the University of Southern California and the Peabody Conservatory. She has more than 50 recordings of standard piano teaching repertoire used by students around the world.
Her adult students have won many honors including First Prize in the Chopin Competition for Amateur Pianists held in Warsaw. Diane lives and teaches in San Francisco.
The lab fee covers all equipment and studio use.
Students will be asked to submit a list of performance ready repertoire prior to arriving to campus. Please submit to adultprograms@idyllwildarts.org.
The program will begin on Sunday, June 9th, with a faculty performance followed by an all program orientation and student mixer, where you will have an opportunity to meet with your classmates, as well as meet students in our adult programs for the week.
Monday night will feature an opening reception at the Parks Exhibition Gallery, featuring work from our very own summer faculty!
Artist Talks will be held in the evenings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This is a wonderful opportunity to listen to our faculty instructors speak about their art.
The week will culminate with the Adult Piano student performance on Saturday, June 15th!

This comprehensive five-day workshop immerses participants in the art of sculpting lifelike animal heads with clay. Starting with press molds, attendees master techniques for expressive eyes and detailed mouth features, ensuring their clay creations possess depth and character.
Come learn to fold-form metal to achieve various textures and surfaces. Using a simple vice and a technique you can perform at home, students will die-form pieces to yield interesting 3-dimensional textured forms for jewelry and adornment, sculpture, artist’s books and more!
