Rebecca Kandel
A documentary photographer who has published and exhibited both nationally and internationally, Rebecca began her journey in education at Hampshire College with a BA in Visual Anthropology and International Relations and then an MFA in Photography and Cross-Curricular Education from the California Institute of the Arts. She began her educational career at Rolling Hills Prep School a year later where she taught Photography, 2D Graphic Design, and the first ever UC Approved Media Literacy class for many years. During her time at RHP she was elected as Educator of the Year by RHP’s faculty and served on the Internal Marketing, Scheduling, and Diversity committees. As Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair, Rebecca supported students both in and out of the classroom by developing and mentoring the Honors Arts Diploma Program and implementing student-led conferencing to empower students to take ownership over their learning. She created an early intervention comprehensive college counseling program for high achieving students grades 6-12 to aid them in matriculating to selective colleges through her work as Academic Enrichment Coordinator. When she’s not providing her on-campus kids the support and guidance they need, you can find Rebecca spending time with her own daughters watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Downton Abbey, and Gilmore Girls and taking their dogs for walks on the beach.
