Botanical Expressions in Metal

Sondra Sherman has been the Head of the Jewelry and Metalwork Program at San Diego State University since 2010. She received the Diplom Degree (MFA) from the Academy of Fine Art in Munich Germany, where she resided for ten years. Her work can be found in significant public collections including, The International Design Museum, Munich, the Museum of Art and Design, NY, the Los Angeles County Museum,CA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, and in her hometown at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

• Closed toed shoes
• Natural fiber clothing (coveralls)
• Tools are provided but if you’d like to bring your own jeweler’s tools, please do.

Optional:

• if you would like to work in sterling silver, you may bring 26 gauge silver sheet. Size will be dependent on your design.

Some basic jewelry construction and soldering experience is required.

• Saw blades
• Jeweler’s brass 2 – 6” x 12”  26 gauge
• N95 dust mask
• Safety glasses
• Soldering gas
• Other design and studio consumables

Classes run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a lunch break. Afternoon sessions resume at 1:00 p.m. and continue until 4:00 p.m. Dinner is served at 5:00 p.m., after which students typically have access to open studio hours in the evening.
