Discover the captivating world of 3D animation during this dynamic one-week summer program designed for high school students. Dive into the exciting realm of digital creativity as you learn to craft immersive 3D worlds, characters, and animations using Blender software. In this hands-on course, you’ll master the fundamentals of Blender, a computer graphics software tool set used for many applications including creating animated films, visual effects, 3D-printed models, and motion graphics. Through your use of Blender you will gain proficiency in 3D modeling and animation techniques.
Through a series of engaging projects, you’ll breathe life into your own animated characters and environments, unleashing your artistic potential. Our experienced instructor will guide you through the entire process, from concept design to rendering your animations. You’ll explore key concepts such as character rigging, motion capture, and scene lighting, all while honing your problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. By the end of the week, you’ll have 3D animations to present and a foundation in Blender, ready to take your creative journey to the next level. Join us for an unforgettable week of artistic exploration and digital innovation in the world of 3D animation!
3D Animation does not require any type of assessment or portfolio to get into the program. Instructors will work with your child at the level that they are at. Your child will improve and learn new skills whether they are a beginner or have been an artist for years.

We will start the day working on an exercise that focuses on the topic(s) covered the previous day. After the exercise new topic(s)/technique(s) will be introduced. Most of the day is spent working on a project that relates to the topic(s)/technique(s) covered. When needed, additional mini exercises will be presented throughout the day. Students will be focusing on solo game projects. Our typical day starts at 9am and ends at 4pm, with an hour break for lunch, and small 10-15 min breaks will be given in the morning and afternoon to step away from the computers. By the end of the week students will have a finished project that they can show to friends, family, and the community.
The software that this class will focus on will be Blender. Blender is cross-platform and runs equally well on Linux, Windows, and Macintosh computers. Its interface uses OpenGL to provide a consistent experience.
