Fill a travel sketchbook with drawings, paintings, notes, collage, and more in this week-long art-journaling adventure. Capture the essence of a place, create visual narratives, and use color to create atmosphere. Practice depicting architecture, figures, page design, hand-lettering, and working quickly from life.
Lessons will be taught in watercolor, ink, and other drawing media such as colored pencil, water-soluble pastels, and markers. You can lean into your choice of mixed media and subject matter throughout the week.
Morning lessons include perspective, figure, still-life, alla prima, color handling, design, and more. Afternoons will be used to put into practice the lessons from the morning. Gain confidence working on location around campus and in the town of Idyllwild with the support and input of the instructor and peers.
Your sketchbook will document what you experienced and learned during the week. There will be plenty of creative prompts, exercises, and technical demos if you prefer more direction, and lots of flexibility if you prefer to work more independently. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or a beginner, this will be a creatively liberating and inspirational week. I will meet you where you are and provide guidance in the areas that most interest you.
