Piano Performance
This workshop is designed for experienced pianists to improve their performance skills and repertoire. Practice and learn alongside professional and performing piano artists, in our beautiful William M. Lowman Concert Hall.
In this one-day workshop we will learn the foundations of watercolor painting, including brush techniques, simple color theory, and exercises to continue painting outside of the classroom. This workshop will encourage you to paint for years to come!

This workshop will provide a sequence of easy exercises designed to save you months of trial and error frustration. Capitalizing on the spontaneous characteristic of watercolor, this sequence of easy exercises will give you the confidence to continue on your own. During this workshop you will:
· Learn the secrets to painting watercolors fast and free
· Have fun painting creative and spontaneous watercolor exercises
· Paint abstract watercolors for gifts or greeting cards
· Learn the brush techniques for painting people, skies, and landscape subjects
· Learn simple color theory for mixing color values
· Lay a foundation of skills so that you can continue to paint fast and free on your own.
Watercolor painting will be explained and demonstrated on this day of hands-on exercises designed for fun (and who knows, maybe even for profit). No matter what your skill or background, this class will have you painting watercolors and loving it. Painting watercolor fast and free will delight and entertain you for years to come.
Robert Regis Dvorák has been making drawing and painting fun and easy to learn for 35 years. He has sketched and painted in 70 countries including all of Western and Eastern Europe, Russia, Southeast Asia, China, Japan, North Africa, the Middle East and India. Dvorak was the Artist-in-Residence in the Redwood City School District for seven years and has experience presenting his work with GATE students, at-risk students, and teachers throughout California.
Dvorak’s work has been exhibited and sold in the USA, Europe, Japan, and China. In addition, Dvorak is the author and illustrator of: Travel Drawing and Painting, The Practice of Drawing as Meditation, Drawing Without Fear, The Magic of Drawing, Experiential Drawing, The Pocket Drawing Book and his latest book of drawings and verses, The Book About Nothing.

Please bring the following items:
• Water container
• Cotton rag
• Palette loaded with your watercolor paint or a pan set that you like
• Watercolor brush(es) (small, medium and large round best, or Chinese calligraphy brushes)
• HB No. 2 pencils (2B pencils are OK too)
• A kneaded eraser
• A glue stick if you have one. Instructor will have some.
• One full sheet of 140# cold pressed watercolor paper (we will tear this down to 8– 7.5” x 11” sheets with a backing board and two binder clips) or a watercolor block of 140# cold pressed 8” x 10” paper
Robert will be demonstrating with the following colors: Permanent Rose, Vermilion, Aureolin Yellow, Yellow Ochre or Raw Sienna, Viridian or Hookers Green, Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue, and Burnt Sienna. Students are not required to have these colors. Bring what you have.
Check-in for your workshop will begin at 8:30 am, and instruction will begin at 9 am. Your tuition will include an hour lunch break from 12-1 pm, provided in our on-campus dining facilities. Instruction will end at 4 pm, but what you learn during this one-day workshop will carry on!

Using basic handbuilding techniques and surface decoration, this workshop invites students to explore play, color, and curiosity in building functional forms.
Come learn to fold-form metal to achieve various textures and surfaces. Using a simple vice and a technique you can perform at home, students will die-form pieces to yield interesting 3-dimensional textured forms for jewelry and adornment, sculpture, artist’s books and more!
